Sushant Singh Rajput and Bhumi Pednekar's Sonchiriya will clash with Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon's Luka Chuppi on March 1.
Come March 1, and two of 2019's talked-about films will clash at the box office.
This time a rom-com will lock horns with an action film. A Kartik Aaryan film will be at loggerheads with a Sushant Singh Rajput film.
This Friday, Luka Chuppi and Sonchiriya will take on each other at the ticket windows.
While Abhishek Chaubey's Sonchiriya is a dacoit film revolving around baaghis (rebels), Laxman Utekar's Luka Chuppi is a hilarious take on live-in relationships.
With a day left for Luka Chuppi and Sonchiriya to hit the screens, let's take a look at the two films and their chances of faring well at the box office.
Let's begin with Luka Chuppi. A rom-com high on entertainment, quirky story, hit songs and a dhamaakedar on-screen jodi, that's Laxman's directorial venture for you. If the trailer of Luka Chuppi has garnered huge response on social media, Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon's pairing has got their fans excited. And this is enough to attract large audience to the nearby theatres in the initial days.
Ever since the release of his last film Sonu Ke Titu Ke Sweety, Kartik has become Bollywood's new blue-eyed boy. If star kids like Sara Ali Khan and Ananya Panday are drooling over this Gwalior boy, filmmakers are putting huge bucks on this new star on the block.
And Kartik is not the only star in the film. His co-actor Kriti Sanon, who made her Bollywood debut with 2014 film Heropanti, is another big reason to watch Luka Chuppi. With the success of Bareilly Ki Barfi, Kriti proved that she has it in her to stand tall among talents like Rajkummar Rao and Ayushmann Khurrana in one frame.
If that isn't enough, Laxman Utekar has a quirky plotline to back his film. A live-in relationship, and that too, with sah parivaar. In the last few years, small-town films have found a huge popularity among Bollywood fans, and Luka Chuppi, too, seems to be riding on this hit formula.
Abhishek Chaubey's Sonchiriya, on the other hand, is a dacoit film set in the 70s with a gripping story and a spectacular star cast. The film, starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar, Ranvir Shorey, and Manoj Bajpayee delves into Chambal's dark ravines again. The trailer shows the characters battling casteism and the false promises of a new world.
If Chaubey's directorial venture has a strong script as its backbone, it also boasts of some great talents like Manoj Bajpayee, Ashutosh Rana and Bhumi Pednekar. Sushant has stepped into the shoes of a dacoit for Sonchiriya, and his fans cannot wait to see their favourite actor in a new avatar.
It's been seven years since Bollywood presented the dacoit genre to fans, the last one being 2012 film Paan Singh Tomar. And Chaubey is bringing a story set during the year of Emergency.
Luka Chuppi and Sonchiriya belong to two completely different genres and will have their own space at the ticket windows, but going by the initial buzz, Kartik Aaryan film has more chances of opening big at the box office. With Kartik's growing fanbase and Kriti's huge popularity, the desi rom-com will find more viewers in comparison to Sonchiriya.
In fact, Luka Chuppi has got a wider release, screen count across the globe, thus giving it an upper hand.
Sonchiriya, on the other hand, has very less buzz in comparison to its competitor. It looks like a film that might gain popularity with word of mouth.
